UFC 282 came to a very contentious conclusion. The main-card bout between Jan Błachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev ended in a draw, making it the fifth title fight tie in UFC history. But what really ticked people off was the controversial results of the co-main event, where Paddy Pimblett was announced the winner over Jared Gordon. Many fans as well as UFC personalities objected to this outcome. Justin Gaethje, however, expressed his disapproval of Pimblett‘s victory by criticizing the sports company, Barstool, which represents ‘The Baddy’. Upon doing so, Gaethje received a harsh response from the company’s founder, Dave Portnoy.

Justin Gaethje expressed his disapproval of the decision by replying to the Barstool founder, Dave Portnoy‘s tweet, where the latter labeled Pimblett vs. Gordon fight as the ‘Fight of the Night’.

Dave Portnoy reminds Justin Gaethje of his controversial sighting

Despite the criticism surrounding Paddy Pimblett‘s contentious victory, Barstool owner Dave Portnoy supported him and referred to his bout as the Fight of the Night. Justin Gaethje, on the other hand, voiced his distaste for this and criticized Barstool for Portnoy‘s tweet. Gaethje‘s comments were taken with a grain of salt by Portnoy, who then slammed him by reminding him of his controversial meeting with the infamous Head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, and asserted that he is in no position to criticize Barstool.

People are telling me @Justin_Gaethje was recently seen hanging out with a warlord accused of brutal crimes against humanity so its hypocritical for him to say we look bad for supporting Paddy when he supports a warlord. I’m gonna take high road + not mention it. #daveyhighroad https://t.co/TiuBhAnnrp

Portnoy wrote, “People are telling me @Justin_Gaethje was recently seen hanging out with a warlord accused of brutal crimes against humanity so its hypocritical for him to say we look bad for supporting Paddy when he supports a warlord. I’m gonna take high road + not mention it. #daveyhighroad”.

The argument between the two appeared to have turned rather intense. In the following tweet, Dave Portnoy revealed being ‘threatened’ by Gaethje.

A quick recap of tonight’s exchange with @Justin_Gaethje

He talks shit about me for supporting Paddy. I respond by saying it may be hypocritical to throw stones when people are saying he hung around with a brutal dictator a few weeks ago. He threatens to beat me up.

“A quick recap of tonight’s exchange with @Justin_Gaethje He talks sh*t about me for supporting Paddy. I respond by saying it may be hypocritical to throw stones when people are saying he hung around with a brutal dictator a few weeks ago. He threatens to beat me up.” the Barstool founder wrote.

However, given that Paddy Pimblett is associated with the sports company, it is only natural for Portnoy to cheer for him.

Barstool Sport’s association with Paddy Pimblett

In 2021, the sports and media company Barstool Sports made a proposition to Paddy Pimblett to join forces. The UFC fighter was then appointed the company’s brand ambassador after the business inked a huge seven-figure agreement with him. Dave Portnoy made the formal announcement of this news on Twitter.

Portnoy wrote, “How it started…how it’s going… @PaddyTheBaddy #scousersdontgetknockedout”. And following this association, Dave Portnoy showed some strong support for Paddy Pimblett. Despite the fact that it is not, at the moment, the prevailing viewpoint.
