The Basildon Sporting Village is nearing completion - get a behind the scenes look at some of the facilities.
1. Basildon Sporting Village 1
Work started on the Basildon Sporting Village at Gloucester park in October 2009. The £38m project is the largest sports project underway in the Thames Gateway after the Olympic site.
2. Basildon Sporting Village 2
It'll have two multi-purpose studios for group exercise classes, 100 station fitness suite and a creche. It'll be opening on time and on budget at the end of April.
3. Basildon Sporting Village 3
The developers are hoping the site will encourage the top athletes of the future with 12 outdoor netball courts, 10 football pitches and 2 cricket pitches.
4. Basildon Sporting Village 4
The centre's been identified as a potential training camp for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. A new 750 seat athletics stadium has been built.
5. Basildon Sporting Village 5
With ten weeks to go until the big opening, work is now focused on the inside of the building. All the equipment will go in, in April.
6. Basildon Sporting Village 6
As well as a climbing wall and 8-court sports hall for badminton and team games - it'll also become a regional gymnastics centre and home of the South Essex Gymnastics Club.
7. Basildon Sporting Village
Basildon Sporting Village is home to the first 50-metre pool in Essex. It can be split into two 25-metre pools and be eventually be covered with 46,700 tiles and has a volume of 2,250,000 litres.
